[DIY] Colorblock Pouch

For all your multitasking needs, I present you my most recent love in the DIY world, courtesy of the lovely Just B. As you must know, the Celine pouch was and still is a big effing deal. But let’s be honest, I don’t have the money to blow on it, especially considering I’m on my shopping hiatus (for the record I’m one day in and struggling). This image has been floating around the internet and apparently sparked her desire to make her own pouch.

These pictures are not of my actual pouch, which I’ll make with the American Apparel pouch in the color “tan” with a red stripe. I also want to make one in a lavender purple or maybe a pale pink and maybe do sort of tribal diagonal black stripes. I’m not sure yet, but the ideas keep pouring out of my brain!

1. Gather your life into a 3×3 foot area. You need an American Apparel Pouch, or something similar, white acrylic paint, and the acrylic paint of your choice, a paint brush, painter’s tape, acrylic coating spray, and a new playlist from 8tracks, and if you’ve never checked 8tracks out, you need to.

2. Tape off the area you want to be your bright color with the painter’s tape, either by measuring or eyeballing it.

3.  Mix a bit of water into your white paint, and brush downwards onto the leather. You need some water to help the paint adhere to the leather. (For the record, I did do some research, and acrylic paint is the proper paint to use on leather, so it shouldn’t flake or peel).

4. After the white almost fully dries, paint over the white with your bright color, with no water added to it. The white acts as a primer to your color, and depending on the color leather you use, you may still need to do more than 2 coats. Just B used a blow dryer to make the coats move along faster, and she also said it works great for getting the coats to dry evenly.

5. When you’re satisfied with the level of saturation of your bright color, cover the non-painted leather of your pouch with a magazine or newspaper, and follow the directions on your glossy clear acrylic spray to cover the rough feeling of the acrylic paint, and give it a smooth texture like the rest of the pouch! Let sit (untouched) for at least 2 hours, or whatever your acrylic spray says (listen to it! It knows the plan!). And enjoy!

[Enter Your New Obession] Welcome to the World of Leggings

Now I know leggings are sometimes the bitch of fashion; everyone makes fun of them at some point or another, but you know you own at least 3 pairs and love them, especially when no-ones looking. Am I right?

Well. This guy is an ingenious designer out of Australia (gotta love that country)! He’s been at it making creative leggings (and now dresses and skirts as well) for a few years, and finally starting to get a decent amount of recognition. Fair warning, they’re not cheap, but the quality of the fabric, and the patterns are top quality.

Please welcome Black Milk Clothing: I personally have 3 pairs of leggings and a dress. One of my friends got into this designer, and in literally two months she bought 2 skirts, 4 pairs of leggings, and a dress. OBSESSION.

The Clouds Dress – I own this one 🙂 The dress and skirt fabric is the same as the legging fabric, so let me tell you, it sucks in all the right places and just looks amazing overall! My one complaint is it tends to ride up (I’ve heard this can be solved with a cotton/jersey slip-type dress underneath).

Shattered Glass Grapes Leggings – They have these in a few colors, but the bright purple makes me happy; just the boost you need in the winter.

Ribs Black Swimsuit: Did I forget to mention they make swimsuits too? Welll, great news!  They do. People also wear these as body suits, with a skirt or jeans etc etc. I believe Ke$ha wore this exact one in a photoshoot actually…

Galaxy Green Leggings: I have these, LOVE them. The first time I wore them out, a drunk girl yelled after me saying “You’ve got a great ass! I love those! I want to touch your butt and I’m not even lesbian!!!” Her guy (friend? boyfriend?) holding her up says “Yeah, I wanna touch it too!”More Fair Warning: You WILL get hit on/called funny nicknames/get asked where you got these when wearing this brand. Not that it’s a bad thing, just feel like you should know. (In case you’re wondering, I was called ‘Space Pants Girl’ one night I wore these out).

Now fly! Zip that mouse over, at least go check it out, there’s some amazing stuff! (And I promise I’m not getting paid for showing off/ talking about Black Milk’s clothes). I also probably won’t be able to post anything until the weekend since I’ll be in Iowa doing research. So have a good week!!

[New Obession] Kate Lanphear’s Style

Kate Lanphear; the current Style Director of ELLE USA, though she used to work for Vogue Italia, and started her career (and life) in Australia. I can very much appreciate the bower she wields, but even more… I’m getting a slight arm party obsession from her. She has killer fashion too, but it’s the accessories she’s got that are driving me crazy! Just let me prove it:

[Milan – November 2011]

[Paris – November 2011]

This whole outfit (minus the shoes, sorry, just not my style), is amazing! The bracelets though *drools* are wonderful.

[First two images credit to JAK & JIL]

[Last image credit to FEAR LANPHEAR]

Let me share some possibly ideas if you’re as crazy over her jewelry as I am…

1. Anything nOir: this is the one I’m dying to get (next paycheck, woo!)

Thin Single in Rhodium – $70

2. Some heavier pieces from CCSkye:

Single Metal Screw Bracelet in Gold and Silver – $125

Mercy Spike Bracelet in Gold or Silver – $185

3. I wish I could be more helpful with this last one… These three are mine:

Gray Leather and Gold Cuff – $28 – from Rococo in The Complex in Birmingham, MI (no idea what brand it is, I’d like to know too)

The skull bracelets I made and plan to start selling on my etsy account shortly: let me know what you think!! I’d love feedback: the black stones are onyx, and the rainbow skulls are dyed howlite, a type of turquoise. I’ll probably sell them for $12-$15 each.

Depending on how much I get done today *crosses eyes* I may post my NYE outfit… If not I promise it’ll be up tomorrow! Hope your weather is better than ours here!

Shades of Anything-But-Gray

Also known as “How College Girls Should Dress When Going Out in the Winter”Winter's Not Boring

I’m not a fan of winter for the weather but I am for most of its fashions (except having to cover every body part to the maximum so I don’t freeze on my way to class). Ever since I just my knee in gymnastics years ago skiing hurts, no matter what I do, and I’ve never learned how to snowboard so that’s out of the question. I don’t mind most winter fashions (though I’m sorry, I’ve just been over peacoats since they first showed up about 6 years ago), but it does get boring seeing girls only wearing dark mini dresses and shoes when they go out, almost always black, not to mention the omnipresent sweatpants and hoodies roaming around campus until the ice thaws. I tend to use neutrals as a base and then add fun colors to that, so pardon the gray blazer (I’ve been lusting after one for a while now).

1. Lara Bohinc Saturn Earrings in Platinum

2. Wildfox Couture Love Bones Beach Jumper

3. DKNY Quinn Ankle Strap Platform Pumps in Black-Gold

4. 3.1 Phillip Lim Small Colorblock Clutch

5. Miss Selfridge Skirt (not available, but this is a similar alternative!)

6. SHANKA Galaxy Resin Bangle

7. Zoya Nailpolish in Paz

8. Vero Moda Blazer (sadly, out of stock)

9. House of Harlow 1960 Chevron Ring in gold with crystals

10. REISS Rich Bodycon Dress in Blush

11. Proenza Schouler PS1 in green suede

12. McQ by Alexander McQueen Studded Court Shoes in Neon Pink
