How to Break Some Necks [Or My First Makeup Tutorial]

We just went out to an absolutely delicious dinner for Valentine’s day. The very few groups of single men (there were a few I promise), plus a very attractive man in the lobby wearing a full on suit managed to nearly break their necks as I walked by. More than pleased right now. Anyhow, I thought I’d give a makeup tutorial a whirl considering this look apparently worked so well, and didn’t take more than 15 minutes to do everything.

My roommate and I dressed (unintentionally) as polar opposites, though the whole effect was quite entertaining. She wore a tank and a loose knit beachy sweater, with some lighter wash soft jeans and her long brunette hair down, and no jewelry. I wore a red maxi skirt with black roses all over it (MINKPINK) and a black tank with a black dolman lace knit crop tee (Gypsy 05) with black heeled combat boots, a legitimate arm party going on (thank you ManRepeller), with this makeup… The tutorial after the jump.

Nothing too hard honestly…Let’s see how it turns out in writing though…

1. I used Urban Decay’s original Eyeshadow Primer Potion, and the applied a base of pale pink eyeshadow from Smashbox called Flirt over my whole eyelid. Next I used a smoky maroon/purple Diamond Eyeshadow (shade #311) from Make Up For Ever , and applied it only to my lashline and built it upwards into a sideways ‘v’ (similar to < or > depending on the eye… I hope that makes sense to everyone).

2. Using Nars’ Limited Edition Arabian Nights palette (the purple pink – black shadow on the far left) I blackened that same V in the step above, but only on the outermost part of the V and dabbed it lightly up into my crease. From there I used my blending brush to smooth out all the lines from mixing colors.

3. Apply a thin line of eyeliner (mine is Smashbox’s Limitless Waterproof Liquid Liner Pen. It’s a mouthful, right?) from the inner edge of your iris out a bit past your eye, making a small cateye. Repeat on the bottom except start from the caeye’s tip dragging it inward to your bottom lash line, and following it until you reach the outermost edge of your iris. Let me know if something needs to be clarified, I know it’s grossly complicated unless you’re actually doing it.

4. Next I applied my foundation (which happens to be Benefit’s Play Sticks in ‘Spin the Bottle’. I love this thing), and added Shiseido’s Shimmering Cream Eyeshadow in Techno Gold (it’s a stunning liquid gold that feels just like it sounds) to the inner corners of my eyes, and dabbing it upwards on my eyelid, and then outwards to meet my eyeliner. If you’re not willing to drop so much money on Shiseido eyeshadow, Make Up For Ever has a pretty good cream eyeshadow that would work just as well and comes in many more colors than Shiseido.

5. I also added a little bit of Nars Orgasm Illuminator, and then Finally (that deserves to be capitalized) Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick in shade #45 .(It’s definitely a true blue-red, and I love the color payoff as well as the moisturizing quality. For lips MUFE and MAC are a tie for me honestly. This red doesn’t bleed. It has a tendency to smudge if you’re not being careful and drinking a little too much alcohol in one night *cough wasn’t me cough*

6. And then mascara. Never forget that! I use Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash. I know most mascaras are made of the same stuff (whatever that may be, I honestly don’t want to know), but I really like the brushand the mascara even gets to the tippy tip tips of my lashes, which I love.

Ta-Da! You’re done. I’m sorry it’s not perfect (or doesn’t look like it from my perspective anyway), but I do enjoy trying new things, and this vanilla latte isn’t going to work itself off!

Again, Happy Valentine’s Day,

xx
